Carel Verhoef

Carel grew up in the Kruger National Park region of South Africa where his family is known for groundbreaking wildlife conservational work. His knowledge and infectious passion for the African bush were woven into his DNA from an early age.

Today Carel’s vast skill-set and experience including archaeological excavations and wildlife conservation, guiding of bush treks and photographic wildlife safaris, have moulded him into a true visionary and respected leader in his field.

As the Founder member of the Memory Foundation, Carel’s in depth knowledge as an owner of a Safari company based in Tanzania from 2001- 2007 have earned him a solid reputation as a renowned East African specialist. He first conceived the idea and impetus for the Memory Foundation on the long and dusty sojourn from Tanzania to Cape Town in 2008.

His deep conviction and commitment to implementing change by giving back to the many impoverished communities and strangers he has met along those barren dusty tracks in East Africa, is an inspiration to all those who are currently involved with the Memory Foundation.

Carel, his wife Miriam and baby daughter Lara, currently reside in Cape Town. His insatiable thirst for exploring and travelling the unmarked roads of the Cape of Good Hope, will often find the family adventuring the remote West Coast or exploring off the beaten tracks through the Wild Coast regions. It is this true spirit and thirst that have motivated Carel throughout his illustrious career and life journey.
